Listen to music that comes from, or looks to Brazil from the berimbau ensemble Arcomusical, guitarist Egberto Gismonti, and Brooklyn Rider plays music by Argentine-born Osvaldo Golijov. Hear a recent work for Brooklyn Rider by Argentine-born composer Osvaldo Golijov, which has the titles of some of its movements in Portuguese. The five-movement string quartet, Um Día Bom, depicts “a life from morning to midnight and beyond, but as if told to children.” One of the movements is based on the Basqiuiat painting, “Riding with Death”), and the closing movement was written around the time that the legendary jazz pianist Chick Corea died.
